Michigan Legal Help Self-Help Center Network of Wayne County

Please be advised that the Wayne County Self-Help Center shall be closed as part of the Court’s State of Emergency from Monday, March 16, 2020 through Thursday, March 31, 2022During this closure, we encourage you to access the self-help navigation tools available at MichiganLegalHelp.org

Please recognize that even after you prepare and save your document within the self-help tool that most court operations have been limited to only the most critical services. As a result, you may be unable to file your matter with the appropriate court until there is greater clarity on the scope of the present health crisis. The Michigan Legal Help Self-Help Center Network of Wayne County has two locations where you can access computers, internet, and Michigan Legal Help. The branches are located in the Penobscot Building and Coleman A. Young Municipal Center, both in Detroit, Michigan.

The Penobscot center has hours from 9:00am to 3:00pm, Monday through Thursday. Visitors must sign in no later than 2:30p.m. This office must close promptly at 3:00p.m.

The Coleman A Young center has hours from 9:00am to 3:00pm and operates on Fridays only. Visitors to this center must also sign in no later than 2:30p.m. This office must close promptly at 3:00p.m.
 
The network branches are located at the following places: 
 
  • Friend of the Court on the 11th floor (Room 1145) of the Penobscot Building, located at 645 Griswold St, Detroit, MI 48226
  • 19th floor (Room 1901) of the Coleman A. Young Municipal Center, located at 2 Woodward Ave, Detroit, MI 48226
 
The Self-Help Center can assist Wayne County residents who wish to gain information about how to represent themselves in simple legal matters, through the Michigan Legal Help Website. 
 

In addition to the website, self-help center staff (called ‘navigators’) will be available to help visitors find what they need on the website, answer questions about court practices and processes, and answer simple questions about forms available on the website.  Navigators cannot give legal advice.
