About Us

Michigan Legal Help is part of the Michigan Advocacy Program, a legal aid organization that provides access to the justice system for those who need it the most through direct legal help and statewide advocacy. Michigan Legal Help (MLH) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, and its funding comes from the Michigan Supreme Court, the Michigan State Bar Foundation, and through grants from the State Bar of Michigan, the Legal Services Corporation, and others.

Michigan Legal Help is made up of nine hard-working staff members:

  • Amy Billmire, Staff Attorney
  • Charlie Campbell, Self-Help Center Coordinator
  • Angela Tripp, Director
  • Emily Kress Miller, Staff Attorney
  • Katie Miller, Administrative Assistant
  • Kim Cramer, Staff Attorney
  • Nora Mahlberg, Staff Attorney
  • Wilson Suprapto, Web Developer
  • Open Position, Data and Program Analyst

The Michigan Legal Help website and first self-help centers launched in August 2012. Since then we have been adding new topics and features to the website, updating our existing content, and helping to open new self-help centers. In 2015, MLH received the Innovations in Equal Justice Award from the National Legal Aid and Defender Association, and in 2017, MLH received the Access to Justice Award from the Michigan State Bar Foundation.

The Michigan Legal Help team works tirelessly with judges, courts, lawyers, bar associations, nonprofit legal aid agencies, legal self-help centers, libraries and many others to promote coordinated and quality assistance for persons representing themselves in civil legal matters in Michigan.

The goal of the Michigan Legal Help website is to bring you accurate and trustworthy legal information. The information you will find here has been reviewed by attorneys and court staff to make sure it is correct. All of the tools that produce forms have been tested many times to make sure everything works correctly. We check all of our content regularly to make sure it is up to date.
Our mission is to educate the public about their rights and responsibilities under the law and to help website visitors navigate the court system properly and efficiently. If you decide that you need a lawyer or help from a community services organization, the Guide to Legal Help can direct you to resources in your area.
